how-it-all-began

It all began in 2007 when Travis & LaRee Hansen moved to Moscow, Russia. Travis had just signed with Dynamo Moscow to play professional basketball. After two unsuccessful fertility treatments and a miscarriage, LaRee began researching adoption in Russia. While researching she came across heart-wrenching statistics of Russian orphans. At that moment, she felt deeply touched and inspired to help children in Russia and children around the world. Through friends in Moscow, Travis & LaRee found a baby hospital in Lyubertsy, Russia and began efforts to improve the living conditions. They started by remodeling a portion of the hospital, providing life-saving operations for the children and creating a group of volunteers to hold, feed and play with the babies and children. Their compassion and drive to improve the lives of children along with the founding sponsor Natures Sunshines’ spirit of long-term social responsibility led to the creation of the Little Heroes Foundation. In November of 2013 the name was changed to Sunshine Heroes Foundation to reflect the longtime relationship and support from Nature’s Sunshine Products.

For years, Nature’s Sunshine has helped share wellness and transform lives around the world through both their business and philanthropic efforts. As a founding sponsor, Nature’s Sunshine has aided Sunshine Heroes in the renovation of baby hospitals in Russia, the construction of schools in Mali, Africa, the distribution of health supplements throughout Ghana and the building of children’s centers around the globe. Though our partnership, Nature’s Sunshine and the Sunshine Heroes Foundation have impacted the lives of hundreds of thousands of children in 19 different countries.

Going forward, Nature’s Sunshine will continue to support the Sunshine Heroes Foundation as we seek to improve the lives and opportunities of children throughout the world. In addition to supporting projects and providing fundraising opportunities, Nature’s Sunshine generously donates a portion of the proceeds from each bottle of Sunshine Heroes supplements, a full line of chewable children’s products, to the Sunshine Heroes Foundation. Nature’s Sunshine also helps to cover administrative costs so that 100% of all individual donations to the Sunshine Heroes Foundation will directly benefit children in need.

Every contribution, big or small, makes a huge difference in changing the lives of children around the world, and we are grateful for our relationship and partnership with Nature’s Sunshine.
